NCPH Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct – Adopted in 2007 to replace a version from 1986, this code sets forth guidelines of professional conduct expected of all members of the NCPH.

Consultants List – History professionals working freelance or in established firms on projects ranging from National Register nominations, to corporate histories, to advising neighborhood associations, local government, and museums.

H-Public – An electronic mailing list of international scope to which subscribers and a list editor can post announcements or pose questions and offer comments for discussion. H-Public is a good way to stay current with happenings in public history. It also is a convenient way to draw on the experience and wisdom of others interested in the field.

Other Online Resources for Public History Educators – Visit the NCPH “Graduate and Undergraduate” education page for discussion about best practices, a list of experienced faculty willing to review college/university public history programs, and other resources such as syllabi and articles used in teaching public history.

Survey of Public History Professionals

In 2008, the NCPH participated in a Survey of Public History Professionals (SPHP)*, prepared by staff at NCPH and AHA. These organizations sought to learn more about the demographics, training, employment conditions, and expectations of public history practitioners. Each participating association helped to distribute the survey across the public history community and will share the aggregated, anonymous data that is collected. The first report, written by John Dichtl [NCPH] and Robert B. Townsend [AHA] appeared as an article in the September 2009 edition of Public History News and in the September 2009 issue of Perspectives on History.
