Hearst Castle is the only art museum operated by California State Parks and we hold an accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums. It is often overlooked as the world class art museum that it is.
We are looking for people who are friendly, courteous, well-spoken, comfortable speaking in front of large groups, enjoy learning and have a positive attitude. This position requires a uniform and typically works weekends, holiday periods, and the summer months as well as other times throughout the year. You must be able to meet challenges such as standing, walking, and climbing stairs for extended periods of time as well as working in all weather conditions. These are not full-time positions. Tour guides typically work 1,200-1,500 hours per year.
GUIDE TRAINEE: $12.29 – 14.23 per hour
This is a seasonal, entry level position that does not require a civil service examination.
GUIDE I (Permanent Intermittent): $19.29 – 24.14 per hour
This is a permanent part-time civil service position involving full time work during the summer season, holiday periods and most weekends; part-time work the rest of the year, up to a maximum of 1,500 hours per year. The position offers health and retirement benefits. You must successfully complete a civil service examination to then be interviewed for this position.
90-minute informational workshops will be held at the Castle visitor center to share information regarding these positions as well as the upcoming Guide I civil service exam. These workshops will take place on October 27th & 28th, November 10th & 11th, and Dec 8th and 9th, 2017. It is necessary to attend only one 90 minute workshop.
