The Department of History at West Virginia University (https://history.wvu.edu/) invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor position in Public History beginning August 10, 2018. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate classes in the Department’s Public History and Cultural Resource Management programs, including historic preservation, and develop public history projects to provide experience for graduate students in collaboration with local and national agencies. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in History or a closely related field by the time of appointment and documented ability to fulfill the duties described above.

Teaching faculty appointments at WVU are full-time, non-tenure track, term appointments with no limit on the number of renewal terms, and full benefits. Teaching Assistant Professors are eligible for promotion, e.g. to Teaching Associate Professor. There is no traditional research assignment.  This position includes a nine-month academic-year appointment and a one-month summer assignment.

As a unit of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of History serves over 7,000 students annually through general education and undergraduate and graduate classes.
