Program Introduction

Started in 2016, UGA's Summer Public History Program in Washington, DC offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to learn about public history in the nation's capital. This 6-credit program includes an introductory 3-week Public History course taught at historic and cultural sites around the city. In June and July students intern at public history sites in the DC metro area. Students are housed in dorm-style accommodations on Capitol Hill. The Library of Congress, the Woodrow Wilson House Museum, The National Archives, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Hillwood House Museum, and Tudor Place are among some of the institutions where students have interned.

Internship Requirements

Students apply for internships in consultation with the program director during the spring semester and receive 3 credits for their work. Most internships are unpaid and full-time.
