Program Introduction

Since 1984, the Center for Public History (CPH) at the University of Houston has been a leader in the field of public history. The program is annually home to some 20 graduate student majors or minors. By 2013, grants, contracts, and internships through CPH and its faculty have exceeded $3,200,000. University of Houston offers the Masters in Public History (thesis and non-thesis) which prepares students for positions in various historical venues, government agencies, business enterprises, and educational institutions. The degree also is excellent preparation for the traditional PhD in History. UH also offers a minor in Public History for MA and PhD students. Every attempt is made to design an individually tailored curriculum.
