Under the supervision of the Head of Processing, the Archival Processing Specialist is primarily responsible for the processing of the University Libraries’ archival holdings by engaging in the arrangement and description of manuscript collections, which may at times include collection material in non-textual formats.

Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program, or Master’s degree in a related field.

Knowledge of the daily operations of special collections repositories, including familiarity with the arrangement and description of archival holdings, with archival information management systems, preservation best practices for archival material, and physical and digital exhibit design; ability to coordinate workflows with other staff members; ability to carry out work with a consistently high degree of accuracy and productivity. Ability to intellectually interpret collection holdings for processing (arrangement and description) and reference services of manuscript collections; ability to make informed preservation-related decisions affecting physical and information stability of the collection.
