Program Introduction

Established in 2015, the Master in Public History of University Paris-Est Créteil is the only one existing in France. Starting in the second year of Master, it is a selective program limited to 20 students/year. The average number of students per year is 10 to 12. All must have a History degree (Licence or Master 1). From 2020-2021 on the admission will be in Master 1 and Master 2. The program offers a MA in History with a specialization in Public History.

Internship Requirements

During the 4th term, an internship will be offered to students for a minimum of 4 months, maximum of 6 months, starting in February. A report will be provided and evaluated. Students can spend their internship in private or public structures (museums, banks, publishing houses, consulting agencies...). So far the Musée national de l'Histoire de l'Immigration, le Musée d'Archéologie nationale de Saint Germain en Laye, Magazine L'Histoire, Ecole frnaçaise de Rome, Pierre Laporte Communication, BNP Paribas etc have received our students. Internships are paid (500 euros/month). All credit hours are included in the internship during the 4th term. If they want to, students can also do a research project, on a public history based topic.

Job Placement Assistance

Last year, 2018/2019 2 students (on 10) were offered a job at the end of their internship. A group of 2017 promotion created their agency of PH consulting : La Boite à Histoire; 2 students chose to work on a PHD and were funded.
