Program Introduction
The University of Nebraska at Kearney's History Department offers an undergraduate Public History minor and an MA in History with a Public History concentration, which can be completed fully online. Our online MA program is a flexible and affordable option for anyone looking to complete their graduate degree around a busy schedule, whether you are in Nebraska or beyond. Courses in the online History MA program include: Public History Seminar, Public History Methodology, Museums and Material Culture, Historic Preservation, Digital History, Oral History, National Parks, and History & Memory. Students can complete the program with a traditional thesis, portfolio, or capstone public history project.

Internship Requirements
All students are required to complete at least one three-credit hour internship. Internships may be in person or remote and are arranged in consultation with your faculty advisor. The UNK History Department maintains a list of available paid and unpaid internship opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students. Students in our online MA program are encouraged to pursue internships in their local community. Students who are already engaged in public history work may substitute additional coursework or an independent study for the internship requirement.
