NCPH Receives NEH Chairman’s Grant

The National Council on Public History (NCPH) is pleased to announce that we have received a Chairman’s Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support the work of NCPH following the cancelation of the March 2020 and 2021 in-person annual meetings as a result of COVID-19 and the shift of those meetings to virtual programs. These two major shifts have resulted in lost income for the organization which provides important services to scholars and practitioners of public history that is vital to the work of the NEH.

Funding from this NEH Chairman’s Grant will enable NCPH to support and provide programming for its members as they adjust and respond to a changing public history climate created by the COVID-19 crisis. Member support services are primarily provided through the work of the Membership Coordinator, Stasia Tanzer, and program services are primarily provided through the work of the Program Manager, Meghan Hillman. This grant will underwrite portions of the salaries and benefits of these two public historians for the period between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021. During this period NCPH staff will work with the public history community and NCPH membership to facilitate discussions and programs related to changing work and opportunities in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Details on the conversations and virtual programs coming out of this work will be announced in the coming weeks and months. For further information, please contact NCPH at [email protected].
