Program Introduction

With members of our first graduating class earning their Master of Science in Historic Preservation (MSHP) degree in 2005, Clemson University's Graduate Program in Historic Preservation has over 200 alumni serving as leaders in the field of historic preservation today. The program functions on the cohort model, with approximately 12 students in an entering (and graduating) class.

Full-time Program Staff/Faculty

We typically have 2 full time staff (currently hiring for one position) who serve the preservation program, a master of resilient urban design degree, and architecture/landscape architecture students studying in Charleston;

3 full time faculty members;

and an amazing ‘bench’ of preservation professionals who teach a course in their area of specialization as lecturers

Fellowships (in the form of tuition waivers); paid hourly work (graduate workers)

Internship Requirements

An internship is required to be completed in the summer between the two-year course of study. Students earn 3-credit hours for this internship. Students are encouraged to find paid internship work and program faculty assist with network connections to assist students in finding their internship, although it is the responsibility of each student to secure an internship.
