Program Introduction
Established in 2018, the Public History Certificate at Virginia Commonwealth University admits five to eight students each year. The program also offers an MA in History, with a joint certificate in Public History. In 2019, three students graduated with the certificate, and five more are anticipated in 2020. Program offerings include courses in the History, Art History, Public Administration, and Urban and Regional Studies departments.

Internship Requirements
Internships are arranged by the internship coordinator in the History Department who, after interviewing the student, establishes a match. Students may earn up to 6 internship credits to count toward the certificate. They may or may not be paid.
