Early modern cookbooks are a treasure trove of information for those interested in the history of food, women's intellectual history, the growth of empiricism and science in the early modern world, and networks of intellectual exchange. This project is a case study of a seventeenth-century English manuscript cookbook held at the John J. Burns Library at Boston College. It includes a transcription of the cookbook, annotations, supplementary essays, exhibits, and videos.

Labor and Support
This was my senior honors thesis at Boston College. I spent eighteen months researching, transcribing, and writing the content for the site alongside a more traditional paper. I was fortunate to work with the staff at the Center for Teaching Excellence at Boston College, who were in the process of re-working their Mediakron platform, and used my project as a test case for many of the new features to the platform. Thus, while I contributed all the content, all of the technical work was done by the Mediakron team. In creating the content, I spent approximately 200 hours working on the transcription, annotation, and writing the essays and exhibits. I'm not sure exactly how much time the Mediakron team spent on changes to the platform itself during the process.

This project was a partnership between me, Marie Pellissier, and the Center for Teaching Excellence at Boston College, who generously provided server space and technical support for her use of their Mediakron platform. The project was overseen by my undergraduate advisor, Dr. Virginia Reinburg.
