WHAT IS CONDITION REPORT 2024?

Condition Report is a conference that engages the multidirectional threats that public history practice in the southern United States faces. The mini-con seeks to strengthen networks of public historians working in the South, explore key challenges, and host working groups to start conversations on specific threats.

HOW DO I REGISTER AND WHAT IT IS THE COST?

The cost of the conference is $75 per person for fully-employed faculty/practitioners and $25 per person for students, contingent faculty, and underemployed practitioners. Registration includes conference fees, access to the host facilities, and some meals and refreshments. Registration will open June 1 and end September 15, 2024.

WHEN AND WHERE?

This year’s event will take place October 4-5, 2024 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The host site is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, with optional excursions and tours on the afternoon of October 6 taking place across South Louisiana.

WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS?

The Hilton Garden Inn-Lafayette Cajundome will have a block of rooms available at a discounted conference rate (rate and deadline TBA). The hotel is a short five minute drive from campus and the conference facilities and a free shuttle bus will be provided at the start and end of the conference day for participants.

Please contact the hotel if you require any additional accommodations (ADA, service animal, etc.) for your stay. If you require accommodations at the conference or the hotel is not meeting your accommodation needs, please contact Ian Beamish ([email protected]).

WHAT ABOUT FOOD – ARE MEALS PROVIDED?

The following meals are provided to registered attendees:

  • Saturday breakfast and coffee/refreshments
  • Sunday breakfast and coffee/refreshments

There will be an option to sign up for lunches on Saturday at local restaurants centered on particular themes or career groups. Dinner on Saturday will be on your own, although we will provide locations to meet if you are interested in going to dinner with other attendees. On Sunday, lunch will be either on your own or part of a tour/excursion, depending on which one you sign up for.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Lafayette is most easily accessible via the Lafayette Regional Airport which has direct flights to/from Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Houston, allowing for easy connecting flights from throughout the United States. The airport is approximately 5-10 minutes from campus and the conference hotel by rideshare, taxi, or rental car.

Other options include Amtrak or Greyhound to Lafayette, both of which stop at a station about 5 minutes from campus/the conference hotel. If you choose to drive, Lafayette is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes from New Orleans and three and a half hours from Houston.
