The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) seeks an enthusiastic Museum Programs Educator to work as a member of the Learning Team.  The KHS Learning Team is responsible for providing learning opportunities with in-gallery experiences, adult and family experiences, workshops/camps, general interest programs, and field trip experiences.  The Museum Programs Educator will always work in the best interest of KHS and help colleagues throughout the organization by supporting KHS’s mission. The Museum Programs Educator is responsible for presenting educational programs at the Kentucky History Center and Museums as well as some off-site programs.  The Museum Programs Educator position requires a person who is dependable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic with dynamic presentation skills. The Museum Programs Educator will:

 

  • Coordinate experiences and programs for the K-12 student audience.
  • Implement programs and resources delivered to K-12 teachers.
  • Coordinate KHS resources with the KHS marketing team and outside partners to raise awareness of KHS programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Teacher Resources Manager.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, history, museum studies or a related field AND two years of appropriate work experience in a school, museum, community center or other history-related institution.
  • Excellent networking and presentation skills. Capacity to speak with diverse groups of people in both formal and informal settings.
  • Basic internet, word processing, spreadsheets, and email competency is required. Working knowledge of principles, initiatives, and standards influencing history education and basic knowledge or Kentucky history.
  • A typical work week for this position will consist of 37.5 hours on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule, but this position may require an occasional Monday or evening.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel, occasionally day and possibly overnight.
  • Must be able to remain stationary (sitting or standing) for long periods of time. Will travel frequently between the Kentucky Historical Society’s three museum site campus, all museums within a quarter-mile radius in downtown Frankfort.

This position will report to the Teacher Resources Manager.  This is a full-time, unclassified (non-merit) position pursuant to KRS 18A.115(1)(u).  The annual salary for this position is $30,605.28.  Benefits include paid health and life insurance, vacation and sick leave, holiday pay, state Tier 3 retirement plan, and an optional deferred compensation plan.
