Announcing the Membership Support Fund
At their March meeting in Montreal, NCPH’s Council of Past Presidents voted to immediately challenge each other to a special fundraising effort to cover the costs of NCPH memberships for colleagues who are suffering financial insecurity due to recent actions of the federal government. As institutional budgets tighten, our colleagues (including federal historians, but not limited to them) may lose jobs or contract work, but they also inevitably lose access to professional networks and sources of community support that could connect them to new opportunities and keep them in the field.
So far, the Council of Past Presidents has raised enough money to subsidize 100 memberships. These funds are not limited to federal workers who have been laid off, but can go toward any professional affected by firings, funding cuts, loss of grants, etc. We ask you to self-report your need using this form: https://ncph.org/funding-need-self-reporting-form/.
As we test the need and capacity to support this initiative we plan to review submissions bimonthly and award largely on a first-come, first-served basis.
