ABSTRACT

For several years, DEAI/IDEA (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion) initiatives have become more prominent, promoting inclusion for many marginalized communities. While access and inclusion has increased, accessibility for disabled people remains inadequate, especially when accessing information through presentations, websites, and other media. This workshop will teach participants how to create posters and presentations and how to present so that the information is accessible to wider audiences.

DESCRIPTION

I am looking for other participants knowledgeable about accessibility issues besides low vision. I am also looking for others to help coordinate a workshop as I have never done one. This workshop could be coordinated with the Professional Development and IDEA Committee and might (if NCPH has one) also be part of the virtual conference to allow for greater attendance.

I think a workshop like this is needed and welcome. I work as a program manager at my university and have experiencing with dealing with accessibility issues related to public-facing events. I am happy to provide some more personalized feedback. I am submitting a proposal as a facilitator so I think my ability to participate is limited, but I am not 100% sure. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Courtney,

Thank you! I will also have limited capacity as I’m starting my PhD in the fall, so hoping to have some help. Any help much appreciated. My email is listed above. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I also think this is needed, but I wonder what you’d like the outcome to be. If you’re thinking this will provide necessary information or training to members of the NCPH Community, I wonder if –instead– this should be a working group? That way, you could put out a call for working group participants interested in developing something specific (a white paper? a set of guidelines? a new policy?).
