ABSTRACT
In 2023, the bilingual New Roots/Nuevas Raíces Oral History Archive launched a new and ongoing series of interviews focused on Latine leaders in North Carolina. This presentation explores these “Pathways to Leadership” oral histories, which include leaders working in various roles, from directors of state-wide agencies to local government and community organizations employees. This oral history project seeks a deeper understanding of the external factors and intrinsic qualities that helped set our interviewees on their leadership journeys. While the stories address many topics, the importance of support systems, solidarity within Latine communities, and calls for increased representation stand out as connecting themes across experiences.
DESCRIPTION
This proposal will present insights from the “Pathways to Leadership” initiative outlined in the abstract and how community engagement events and digital history methods (particularly podcasting) have helped us share these stories and the advice that our interviewees provide.
I am looking for other panelists to form a roundtable (preferably) or traditional panel presentation around shared themes of Latine/migrant experiences, representation, and oral history methodology.
