From Around the Field this week: NCPH is accepting letters of interest for multiple National Park Service contract positions; the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is accepting submissions for the 2026 ASALH Book Prize; American Historical Review seeks proposals for a special issue on “Methods for Archival Silence in Early History”; National Trust for Historic Preservation is hosting their PastForward conference.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- The American Historical Association welcomes submissions of op-eds, media appearances, or other resources that offer context and insight to the public on the recent actions by the federal government
- The American Historical Association welcomes submissions of articles and other resources tracking federal actions affecting history
- NCPH (that’s us!) has released an updated Graduate Student Handbook: Choosing and Thriving in a Public History Program
- NCPH has put out three Requests for Letters of Interest calling for a Tribal Engagement Specialist and two project historians to aid in completing two administrative histories for Petroglyph National Monument and Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Submissions are due by September 15 or 22, 2025
- NCPH and the Organization of American Historians are co-hosting a lunchtime postcard writing advocacy event on September 17, 2025
- NCPH and AASLH are welcoming proposals for their joint conference “The Work of Revolution,” taking place from September 16-19, 2026 in Providence, Rhode Island. Preliminary topic proposals are due October 15, 2025 and final proposals are due December 1, 2025
AWARDS AND FUNDING
- The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is accepting submissions for the 2026 ASALH Book Prize. Nominations due September 15, 2025
- The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is offering 3 fellowships for visiting researchers of various topics, including public history. Applications are due October 15, 2025
- The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin is accepting applications for its 2026–2027 research fellowship program. Applications are due November 3, 2025
- The American Council of Learned Societies is accepting applications for its Digital Justice Grants Program. Applications are due November 20, 2025
