From Around the Field this week: The Organization of American Historians is accepting applications for many of its award opportunities; The Preserving Historic Places conference is taking place in Fort Wayne, Indiana; New York Historical is accepting applications for its Fall 2025 seminar series; The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era is accepting proposals for its conference; Dr. Andrea Roberts is hosting “The Out(sider) Preservation Initiative: The Field Beyond Regulation and Lists” for Black in Historic Preservation.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- The American Historical Association welcomes submissions of op-eds, media appearances, or other resources that offer context and insight to the public on the recent actions by the federal government
- The American Historical Association welcomes submissions of articles and other resources tracking federal actions affecting history
- NCPH (that’s us!) has released an updated Graduate Student Handbook: Choosing and Thriving in a Public History Program
- NCPH and AASLH are welcoming proposals for their joint conference “The Work of Revolution,” taking place from September 16-19, 2026 in Providence, Rhode Island. Preliminary topic proposals are due October 15, 2025 and final proposals are due December 1, 2025
AWARDS AND FUNDING
- The Organization of American Historians has many award opportunities available to recognize scholarship and work in the field of U.S. history. Most submissions are due by October 1, 2025
- The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is offering 3 fellowships for visiting researchers of various topics, including public history. Applications are due October 15, 2025
- The American Heritage Center (AHC) at the University of Wyoming offers annual travel grants to provide support for travel, food and lodging to carry out research using AHC collections. The application due date is October 31, 2025
- The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin is accepting applications for its 2026–2027 research fellowship program. Applications are due November 3, 2025
- The American Council of Learned Societies is accepting applications for its Digital Justice Grants Program. Applications are due November 20, 2025
- The OutHistory Fellowship Program (OFP) is offering four paid fellowships for projects on under-represented topics in North American LGBTQ history. The application deadline is January 1, 2026

- The National Humanities Alliance has released two advocacy resources, “Humanities Pathway to Career Success,” and “Demonstrating the Value of the Liberal Arts,” which respectively demonstrate the value of humanities education for a successful career in a wide range of fields and the value of a liberal arts education
- Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archives Professionals seeks proposals for a special issue on “Ethical AI in GLAM: Challenges and Opportunities for Digital Stewardship,” due October 20, 2025
