DESCRIPTION

As LGBTQ people we  have endured many forms of institutional oppression, discrimination, bias, and physical violence. Our true history is often not accurately reported. Despite recent political gains, we are seeing an increase in hate crimes and oppressive public policy changes.

We are also resilient and have found ways to adapt in this often-crazy world. How often do we think about what the generations before us needed to do to survive? What are those stories and how can they inform our own journey?  How do we address intersectionality? How can we connect and learn more from our intergenerational experiences?

This workshop will provide the time and space for this dialogue, learning, reflection and exchange. I propose presenting historical information and case studies to examine together. As a content expert on LGBTQ aging, I have many years of experience facilitating similar discussions. I am also open to being a panelist.

I like this idea. There are some places that have done good work that is worth being highlighted but I’ve heard from institutions who don’t want to do this wrong and instead choose to do nothing. I like the idea of this being a roundtable of case studies that can offer support to young professionals and students who are interested in this work and ways this work can be supported.
