From Around the Field this week: National Humanities Alliance hosted their 2025 annual meeting in Washington, DC, US; the The National Trust for Historic Preservation wraps up applications for their Conserving Black Modernism Grant Program; Park University and the State Historical Society of Missouri hosts their 2025 Missouri Conference on History in Blue Springs, Missouri, US.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

  • The National Preservation Institute will host a session on Section 4(f) Compliance for Historic Properties in Montpelier, Vermont, US, from April 23-24, 2025
  • The New York Historical will host an Institute for Constitutional History Seminar: Religion in American Law on April 25, 2025, at the New York Historical in New York City, New York, US. Applications are due March 28, 2025
  • The National Preservation Institute will host a session on Section 106: An Introduction in New York, New York, US, from April 28-29, 2025 and in Salt Lake City, Utah, US, from May 20-21, 2025
  • Columbia University will host the NEH-funded Archives as Data – Summer Institute 2025 for historians and archivists in processing and analyzing textual data June 2-13, 2025 at Columbia University, New York City, New York, US. Master students through established scholars are encouraged to apply. Financial support may be available for those needing to travel 
  • The Preservation Institute Nantucket is now accepting applicants for their 2025 cohort. The program will run from June 9 – August 8 and is open to graduate students, upper-level undergraduate students, and recent graduates from any discipline and institution. Final application deadline is April 30, 2025
  • The Newberry will host an Intensive Language Study in Nahuatl/Nawat July 21-August 1, 2025. Applications are due March 15, 2025
  • The Buildings-Landscapes-Cultures Field School will host their Public Humanities Summer training weekdays from July 7, 2025 – August 1, 2025. Applications are due May 1, 2025

PUBLICATIONS 

  • Federal History and the Society for History in the Federal Government opens submissions for its 2026 issue, due March 30, 2025
  • Chapter proposals between 300-500 words for chapters of 6,000-8,000 words for an edited collection, Imagining Explorers: From National Narratives to Public History, Explorers and Exploration in the Public Realm, are due by April 15, 2025. All proposals are to be sent to both of the volume editors, Lauren Beck [email protected] and Lydia Towns [email protected]. Acceptance letters will be issued in early May, 2025. Full drafts will be due November 15, 2025, with a projected final submission to the publisher in Spring 2026

Chapter Proposals for Labor Relations and the Creative Work: Arts on the Line are due June 15, 2025. Expression of interest is due April 15, 2025, with the final chapter submission deadline being January 31, 2026
