Project Showcase: Each Moment a Mountain

, , , , ,

web site imageEach Moment a Mountain is a public history and digital humanities project that celebrates art and thought inspired by the wealth of materials housed in freely available digital archives. Showcased are poetry, fiction, non-fiction, art, multimedia, comics, humanities scholarship and other digitally representable creations that engage with text or images from our featured historical archives.

While many collective works of the Internet are heralded as the end of individualist humanism, Each Moment A Mountain celebrates the idiosyncratic perspectives of its contributors for the unique interpretations they bring to archival materials. By layering together the varied visions of its contributors, Each Moment a Mountain creates an understanding of the past that bridges the aesthetic and intellectual aspects of history and challenges readers to make their own meaning of historical documents.

Currently, Each Moment a Mountain is featuring works inspired by The Day Book during the week beginning with August 12, 1912, which is made freely available as part of the National Endowment for the Humanities/Library of Congress online collection of digitized historical newspapers, Chronicling America. Each Moment a Mountain is currently accepting submissions. Also sought are history educators, teaching librarians, archivists, and others interested in using the site as a pedagogical tool. Visit the submissions page for more.
